A new dawn for the Macmillan English Campus

Welcome to the first in a series of newsletters from Macmillan English Campus. We hope these will keep you up-to-date with our growing success story!

The Macmillan English Campus is an online pratice environment for learners of English as a foreign language. The concept behind the English Campus is blended learning - we believe that language learning can be significantly enhanced by high quality online support materials. For this reason, the Macmillan English Campus allows institutions to blend innovative online courses with their existing classroom-based activities to create a range of exciting multimedia course programmes. These can be based around any classroom textbook.

It has already been a great year for Macmillan English Campus. In March, we moved to new offices (the Macmillan Building in London), heralding a rapid expansion of the staff team. The English Campus is now a separate operating unit within the Macmillan Group, but continues to be very much linked to Macmillan Education as part of their ELT portfolio. The Chairman of our new Supervisory Board is Richard Charkin, CEO of the Macmillan Group. All this indicates increased commitment and investment in ELT electronic publishing.

In addition to these significant internal developments, the list of customers for the Macmillan English Campus has been growing fast, particularly in Latin America.

Cultura Inglesa São Paulo, the first customer and development partner for the Macmillan English Campus, has recently renewed its contract for a further four years. Over 41,000 Cultura students now use the English Campus across 22 units in the region. In addition, we are delighted to announce that more schools in Brazil, the Association Culturas Inglesas in the North-East (ACINE), have signed contracts to use the English Campus. Eight schools in total, including branches in Recife, Olinda and Salvador, will begin using the English Campus from September 2005. And in Chile, the Instituto Chileno Británico de Cultura has also signed a three year contract to use the Macmillan English Campus. The Británico network, with head offices in Santiago, offers language training, cultural programmes and opportunities for study in the UK.

Macmillan English Campus in your market

We are convinced that the Macmillan English Campus is a great opportunity for your market. In May, our product champion initiative was launched. This means that almost every market has a source (and in some cases more than one!) to act as a primary contact for the English Campus. This includes supplying detailed product information, local clients and potential sales leads.
