DEVELOPING BUSINESS CONTENT

Being online, the Macmillan English Campus is able to deliver regular updates of its content and functionality for the benefit of all its users. These updates are at no additional cost to the user and demonstrate our commitment to the highest standards of pedagogy and teaching resources.

Last month we informed you about the delivery of our Grammar Reference links, a new functionality that facilitates the teaching of key points of grammar.

This month we are delighted to announce a substantial new content update – two hundred new Business English resources will be available in May to all users for no additional cost.

What new resources will be available?

These two hundred new exercises and activities will more than double the number of business-related resources in the English Campus database. Combined with the 160 existing resources, plus the business exam preparation material, the new content will create an exhaustive learning resource for all business students.

The new resources include language exercises and listening and vocabulary activities. In addition to these we are also introducing business-specific web projects and sample essays to give a more rounded business learning experience. With these new resources, students can enhance their grammar, listening, vocabulary, reading and writing skills in the business environment.

How will I access the new resources?

To help you and your learners utilize this new content, we have also built a number of business-specific courses. These will be available at no additional cost at three levels: Level 3 (Pre-intermediate), Level 4 (Intermediate) and Level 5 (Upper Intermediate).

The courses are structured into four categories:

  • Business communication
    Formal or structured communication, specifically about business matters;
  • Communicating outside work
    Informal or non-structured communication, typically not about business matters but necessary for business to be conducted;
  • Companies, departments and jobs
    Material aimed at specific types of job and categories of company; material about people and lifestyles that relates to specific companies and jobs;
  • People
    Human-resources-related topics (such as interviews and appraisals).

The courses will include some exam preparation exercises for the Cambridge BEC exams at Preliminary (MEC Level 4) and Vantage (MEC Level 5) levels, although these exercises are suitable for anyone wanting to gain practice in Business English. The content will be accessed through the ‘Tests and Exams’ tab within the English Campus interface. Courses for Levels 1 & 2 and Level 6 will be published subsequently.
