CUTTING THE RIBBON ON MEC IN MEXICO
The Macmillan English Campus (MEC) is now well established amongst a number of language learning institutions in Mexico.
In this month’s newsletter, we are delighted to describe the official launch for one of our newest customers - the Universidad Regiomontana.
The Universidad Regiomontana is a large private university in Monterrey, Mexico. The Universidad launched with the British English edition of the English Campus this year and there are now over 1,700 students using it in around 74 classes.
How is the English Campus being used?
The English Campus has already been eagerly received by teachers and students alike and, since the rollout at the Universidad, it has been fully integrated into all classroom teaching. Teachers typically use the English Campus for 30 minutes or more per week with their students.
In addition to classroom work, teachers are reporting that the English Campus has been used profitably for homework purposes as well.
Why has it been so successful?
According to Doctora Magneli Villanueva, Director of the Universidad’s Language Centre, the key to the success of the English Campus has been its enthusiastic adoption by the teachers.
Teachers have really enjoyed demonstrating the functionalities and uses of the English Campus from the front of class and this has really motivated the students to use it.
In fact, Dra. Villanueva was happy to pass over a number of comments that she has overheard from teachers over recent months. These range from: ‘It’s reducing our lesson preparation time’ to ‘We can really get students to do their homework now!’
How is it being promoted?
The Universidad has worked hard to promote the English Campus to prospective students as well as to those already enrolled in a class.
There is a sound commercial rationale for this pro-active approach. Most of all, being seen at the cutting-edge of new technology-based learning solutions has enhanced the Universidad’s reputation in this competitive market.
The Universidad’s commitment to the English Campus was demonstrated at their official launch event last month.
Ing. Rodrigo Guerra Botello, Rector at the Universidad, and Emma Shercliff, Sales and Marketing Director at Macmillan English Campus (see photo, right) marked the official launch of the English Campus by cutting a ceremonial ribbon at the Universidad's self-access computer suite. Both made short speeches to the local press on the occasion. As you can see, their comments were published in the local newspaper (see article, below).
This official event was followed by an opportunity for all present to enter the Universidad’s computer suite to observe students using the English Campus. MEC was delighted to hear the students confess that, since being introduced to the English Campus at the Universidad, they were feeling highly motivated to submit their homework – on time!
